Monthly Financial Update – March 1, 2020

MonthlyUpdatePiggyBank

The Monthly Financial Update gives our readers an inside look at the allocation and performance of our personal portfolio. At the beginning of each month, we share a snapshot of our investments and highlight their performance over the previous month. In addition, we compute our progress towards achieving our retirement number.

Wild Ride!

The stock market this month was like a roller coaster ride! The market hit new all-time highs, then immediately followed up with one of the largest drops in history. At the time of this writing, the previous 6 months of market growth has been totally wiped out. Worst of all, this may just be the beginning. The market could continue to drop precipitously for an extended amount of time.

While it may seem like we should be panicking, I actually feel pretty excited. When I'm able to buy the exact same investments I've been buying, only at a steep discount, it feels great! Although our portfolio growth was notably negative this month, we still feel we are right on track. That's because we know the stock market always goes up. Therefore, it's just a matter of time before the discounted shares we're buying now, turn into highly valuable assets!
