The Monthly Financial Update gives our readers an inside look at the allocation and performance of our personal portfolio. At the beginning of each month, we share a snapshot of our investments and highlight their performance over the previous month. In addition, we compute our progress towards achieving our retirement number.
The Bear Has Arrived.
For over a decade, financial analysts have been shouting about the impending bear market. Now, after one of the longest bull markets in history, it has finally arrived!
This month our portfolio certainly took a good shellacking. We recorded the largest one month drop that we've seen since we started tracking our net worth in 2017. The current volatility of the financial markets and the economy as a whole may very well lead us into a recession. While this is obviously not ideal, bear markets and recessions are relatively normal occurrences. If history holds, the market should be back to bull territory within 1-2 years or possibly much less. Our plan is to buy as much as we can while things are cheap!

Like you, we got hit hard in March. Starting to build back up again, though. Our target FI date of July of this year has taken quite a hit, though.
You were so close! Things were looking great at the start of the year, I was thinking of moving up my FI goals! This hit has been pretty significant. However, I’m confident things will get back to normal. Sorry to hear that your July date may no longer be in the cards, but it’s great that you’re so close! You’ll be there before you know it!
